Richard R. Florance, 1902-1980

Richard “Dick” Florance, 77, of Richmond, VA, was a founder of the firm.

Dick Florance died Wednesday, February 6, 1980. He was the senior partner in the Law firm of Florance, Gordon and Brown. He began practicing law in Richmond, VA, with his father after graduation from the University of Virginia Law school in 1924; the firm then was known as Florance and Florance. He served on Richmond City Council from 1952 to 1954.

He was president of the Richmond Bar Association in 1951 and was also a member of the Virginia and American Bar associations.

He was the 1960 president of the Kiwanis Club of Richmond and was a Scout commissioner and president of the predecessor body of the Robert E. Lee Council of the Boy Scouts of America in the middle and late 1930s. He was a trustee of the predecessor body of the United Way. He was a former vestryman, treasurer, senior warden, and president of the men’s organization of St. James’s Episcopal Church.

He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Eloise Blasingame Florance; a daughter, Miss Mary Gardner Florance; a sister, Miss Juliet Harrison Florance; and a brother, Walker Florance, all of Richmond.
