Richard Samet has been practicing law since 1990, after completing his service as law clerk to the judges of the 13th judicial district of Virginia. After receiving his undergraduate degree in 1985, he spent part of the following year working for James Broyhill for Senate.
Mr. Samet is a member of the Firm’s Litigation Practice Group, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide range of cases. His practice focuses on civil litigation, with particular emphasis on claims for sexual assaults, child day care liability, medical malpractice and personal injury. He also represents health professionals, including those in the mental health field, in matters before the Virginia Department of Health Professions. He has tried cases throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia in state and federal courts. In addition, Mr. Samet has developed substantial experience representing clients in insurance coverage disputes as well. He has also participated in lobbying members of the General Assembly on matters before the Courts of Justice Committee.
Mr. Samet has also authored legal articles in his practice area, including Using Medical Demonstrative Evidence in Trials, 5 VTLA Journal 2 (Spring 1993), Indemnification Issues in Medical Malpractice, Vol. X, Journal of Civil Litigation 113 (1998), and Survey of Liability for Criminal Assaults of Third Parties, Vol. XX, Journal of Civil Litigation 31 (2008).
